Dr. Eugene L. Gibson, Jr.
Rev. Dr. Eugene L. Gibson, Jr. is the Senior Pastor of The Place of the Outpouring @Olivet Fellowship in Memphis, Tennessee and is the proud father of two beautiful daughters, Trinity Essence 20 and Taylor Emani 17. Dr. Gibson, affectionately called “Pastor Geno,” served as the Minister of Music for the Mission of Faith Baptist Church in Chicago, under his late father; Rev. Eugene Gibson, Sr. and New faith Baptist Church in Matteson, Illinois, under the Pastorates of Drs. Frank Thomas and Trunell Felder. He also served as the Men/Outreach Pastor at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis, TN once again with his mentor Rev. Dr. FrankAnthony Thomas.

Geno studied music at the VanderCook College of Music in his native Chicago where he received the Hale A. VanderCook Talent Scholarship for vocal performance. He holds the following degrees: a Bachelor of Theology from Christian Bible College; a Master of Arts in Religion/Urban Ministries from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; and a Doctorate of Ministry from United Theological Seminary. His doctoral dissertation was entitled The Liberating Marriage: The Liberating Relationship Between the Sermon and Songs of the African American Church. Pastor Gibson teaches annually at the McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, as well as at Memphis Theological Seminary. He is a 2012 inductee into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers of Morehouse College.

Having an unquenchable love for the communication of God’s Word through preaching Pastor Gibson has also served as the Co-Executive Editor of the prestigious preaching journal The African American Pulpit. Prior to receiving this position he had been published in the journal several times. Recently Dr. Gibson released his first book, “Courage Under Fire; Guarding the Romantic Flame From Life’s Fiery Issues.” It is a collection of inspiring messages that will help those in married and single relationships guard against the fiery issues of life. Dr. Geno is committed to sharing the liberating relevance of God’s Word and challenges The Place of the Outpouring to be the modern day pool of Bethesda; The Place where people seek healing from the infirmities of life.

The Place of the Outpouring under Gibson’s leadership has grown both spiritually and numerically into one of the leading churches in Memphis. The Place has committed to a three-fold mission and exists to Exalt Christ, Engage Community and Embrace Culture. This is seen through concentrated efforts in Worship, Witness and Works that are designed to liberate the Church and Community Spiritually, Socially and Economically. In November 2015, Dr. Gibson was named the Dean of the Senior Pastor’s Division of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship by Presiding Bishop Joseph Warren Walker, III. Gibson is a lover of people and enjoys family, movies, reading and vacationing while doing all of the above. Gibson is a member of the Memphis Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.
